Drunk driving cost Indian driver dear, case reached court, jailed

Dubai Law System: A 39-year-old Indian has been sentenced to one month in jail for running over a woman’s leg in Dubai. A fine of 10,000 dirhams (the currency of the United Arab Emirates) has also been imposed on the person. The woman was seriously injured in the incident. 

According to The National’s report, the Dubai Court of Appeal held that the Indian was driving under the influence of alcohol and was also found guilty of fleeing the scene of the accident. Due to this, his deportation order was cancelled. In fact, last November, the accused while driving in Bur Dubai Al Mankhool area did not pay attention to a woman sitting on the footpath. 

The driver fled with the vehicle
According to the news of The National, the person’s friend told the court, we were together in the car at the time of the incident. He said, he (the driver) stopped the car so I came out to see the woman, meanwhile he fled with the car. It has been said in the report that the culprit has accepted the allegations during the police investigation and in the court. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving, which is an offence.

One month to three years in prison
Nida Al Masri, Legal Advisor, Justicia Advocates & Legal Consultants, said, according to Article 393 of the UAE Traffic Law, causing death on the road Offenders can face a jail term of one month to three years or a fine as decided by the court.
