Princess Diana’s Sweater: The black ship sweater of the late Princess Diana of Wales is up for auction. It will be auctioned in New York in September this year. This special sweater made of red and white checks is expected to sell for more than $50,000. It is claimed to be auctioned at Sotheby’s online Fashion Icons sale.
Designed by Sally Moore and Joanna Oborne, this sweater was worn by Princess Diana on several occasions. The special thing is that the late princess wore it even during her engagement to the then Prince Charles. In fact, Princess Diana was photographed wearing the sweater at a polo match in June 1981 when she was 19 years old. Princess Diana became a style icon as soon as her sweater picture went viral.
Later, the designers received an official letter from Buckingham Palace stating that there was some damage to Princess Diana’s sweater. Also, the designers were asked whether it can be repaired or replaced. This shows how much the princess loved this sweater.
The designers had to give a new sweater
Sotheby’s said it will be on display at Sotheby’s New York showroom from September 7-13, while online bidding will open on August 31 and run until September 14.
