Scotholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has released a report on global military expenditure. According to which India has now become the fourth largest country in the world in terms of expenditure on military. This expenditure has increased by 3.7 percent compared to the year 2021 to reach $ 2240 billion

According to this report, China is spending about four times more than before and America is spending about 10 times more on its defense budget than before. It is believed that the biggest reason for increasing the defense expenditure of America, Russia and European countries is the attack on Ukraine last year and China’s visible anger towards Taiwan. 

According to SIPRI data, in view of increasing tensions between countries around the world, instead of paying attention or spending on important issues like global warming, environment, economic development, a large part of the budget is spent on buying weapons and other military preparations. are doing. India has also increased its defense budget because at present India’s relations with two neighboring countries China and Pakistan are tense.

Why is India’s spending rising?

When China and Pakistan attack together in India, then it is very important to have some such weapons with water, land and air forces, which can defeat the condition of both the enemy countries. It is necessary for India to buy these weapons because for this reason China and Pakistan cannot think of launching a big attack. Indigenous weapons are needed for security from China and Pakistan and to attack if necessary. That’s why India’s defense budget has increased. 

Where does the money from the budget made for the Indian Army go

According to Sipri, only three countries are spending 57 percent of the military spending in other countries around the world. America, Russia and China. The highest historical growth has been seen in European countries. European countries have made the biggest increase in the last 30 years. European countries have increased their defense budget by 13 percent. The reason is the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

$2,240 billion spent on weapons

According to Sipri’s report, $2,240 billion was spent on weapons in the world. In the year 2022, the total global military expenditure has increased by 3.7 percent to reach $ 2,240 billion (Rs 1,83,46,48,48,000). And this is the biggest military expenditure ever. According to the same report, European countries have recorded their fastest year-on-year growth in at least 30 years.

China is second in terms of military expenditure, why military power is increasing

In terms of military expenditure, China alone spends more than $200 billion every year. year 2023, China’s defense expenditure increased to 1.55 trillion yuan (about $ 225 billion). This is a 7.2 percent increase over the 2022 budget, and marks the eighth consecutive year of military spending increases.

According to Sipri’s report, China has rapidly increased its defense budget amidst increased disputes with America over Taiwan and South China Sea. Along with this, this country is continuously strengthening preparations on the Indian border. After America, China has become the second country to spend the most money on military. The United States has the highest military spending in the world, with $842 billion set for this year.

Pakistan also increased its budget by 6 percent

In the year 2021-22, Pakistan had also increased the expenditure on the army by 6 percent. In the year 2022-23, it was again increased to 2.69 percent. In the year 2022, the military expenditure of this country was 1.52 lakh crores. Whereas in the year 2021, 1.37 lakh crore rupees were spent on Pakistan Army. After which it was revised to 1.45 lakh crores. This budget was increased after the Pak Defense Ministry demanded to increase the budget. 

Saudi Arabia to spend $7,500 million on defense in 2022

In the year 2022, Saudi Arabia spent $ 7,500 million on defense, which is 16 percent more than last year. Saudi Arabia’s defense budget has reportedly increased due to the Yemen war.

39% of the world’s total spending is spent in America only 

Talking about America, in the year 2022, 39 percent of the defense expenditure of the whole world has been spent in this country only. America’s military expenditure is three times more than China’s expenditure. On the other hand, due to the fear of China and North Korea, Japan has also increased its defense budget and made it 3 lakh crores. This is the highest military expenditure since 1960.

China spent $ 29,200 million on defense matters last year, which is much less than the US. But still US leaders and military fear that China is rapidly increasing its hold and bridging the gap in this sector. 

The budget of this country is reduced

After the year 2018, Africa’s military expenditure has decreased for the first time. Africa’s defense spending will decrease by 5.3 percent to $3,940 million in 2022 compared to 2021.

How much money did India get in 2021-22 to buy arms 

Parliament’s Standing Committee on Defense while presenting the report in the Lok Sabha said that in view of the tension on the border, the army is not getting the budget it should have.

According to the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Defence, in the year 2021-22, the Army had demanded a budget of Rs 46,844 crore, but only Rs 32,115 crore was given. The Air Force has also got only Rs 56,852 crore instead of Rs 85,323 crore and the Navy has got Rs 47,591 crore instead of Rs 67,623 crore. In the year 2021-22, Air Force got Rs 53 thousand crore, Army got Rs 36 thousand crore and Navy got Rs 33 thousand crore.

India spends less than 1 percent on defense research

According to the report of the committee, the Government of India is spending less than 1 percent of the defense budget on defense research. China spends 20 percent of the total defense budget on defense research and the US 12 percent.

Tension continues along the border with China since 2020

Tension has continued between India and its neighboring country China since the military skirmish in the Galvan Valley in the month of June 2020. 15 rounds of talks have also taken place between the two countries to establish peace, but there has been no talk on establishing peace completely.

But due to this violent clash in the year 2020, relations between the two countries will remain tense.
