Direction of Shakuntalam
Many of us must have heard this story many times. It is not an easy task to bring such a story which is known to most of the people on the screen. It is right that Gunashekhar took up this responsibility. But he dragged the film to show the magic of grandeur and technology. Due to bad direction, the stars also fail to give the kind of emotion and drama that was needed to the audience. Then the way the scenes have been threaded to show the magic of 3D in the film, they also seem unnecessary. The film stretches for about two and a half hours. The only way to show a seen story in an impressive way is to keep it crisp and to keep the story sharp. But Gunasekhar misses it.
Acting in Shakuntalam
Talking about acting, Samantha has done a good job. She looks amazing in every frame. Then the kind of atmosphere the director has created and the style given to Shakuntala, reminds a lot of the heroines of Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings. In this way Samantha has played the character of Shakuntala well. Dev Mohan has tried well with him. But some of his scenes seem forced and Samantha overpowers him. Allu Arrah and Mohan Babu are also fine.
Shakuntalam Verdict
The background music of the film is good. The director’s entire focus has been on showing grandeur, due to which he drags the film a lot. Then after watching many scenes, it seems that there was no need for its 3D version at all. The level of technology also bothers. Overall, this story does not excite. Director Gunasekhar has failed on the front of showing the story and emotions properly in the affair of technology.
