Shri Krishna loved milk, curd and butter. That’s why Shri Krishna along with his friends used to steal butter from his neighbors house and eat it. For this reason, Krishna ji is also called butter thief. Disturbed by Shri Krishna’s habit of stealing butter, the gopis had started tying the pot of butter in their house at a height. But Shri Krishna foiled even this attempt of the Gopis by forming his own group.  This is why we celebrate Dahi Handi. Shri Krishna was very mischievous in his child form, remembering his mischievous form and mischief, the festival of Dahi Handi is celebrated.
