Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has said that the new agriculture policy to be released on June 30 will prove helpful in solving many problems of the farmers of the state. He said that the new agricultural policy is being prepared with the suggestions of farmers, agriculture experts, farmer leaders, common people and representatives of different sections. It will play an important role in saving the farmers and agriculture of Punjab.
While presiding over the nearly four-hour long meeting regarding the demands of United Kisan Morcha (non-political) at the local Punjab Bhavan, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that the new agricultural policy is being prepared with the aim of increasing the economic prosperity of the farmers. Apart from this, the state government is constantly making efforts to solve many difficulties and problems of the farmers. He told that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government is exploring possibilities to export vegetables and other crops grown by farmers to neighboring countries. The Punjab government is working seriously to fulfill this objective.
Regarding the demand placed by the farmer leaders to release the arrears of the sugar mills, Dhaliwal said that after the meeting with the Chief Minister, the arrears would be given to the sugarcane farmers very soon. He assured the farmer leaders that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is taking meaningful steps to improve the economic condition of the farmers and all the legitimate demands of the farmers will be fulfilled. Many other issues related to agriculture and Punjab were discussed on this occasion.
Farmer leaders brought to the notice of the Agriculture Minister that the heirs of some farmers who died during the farmer’s movement have not yet been given government jobs. On the spot, Dhaliwal instructed the higher officials of the agriculture department to complete the office process soon and give them jobs.
On this occasion, Dhaliwal told that according to the announcement made by the Chief Minister, canal water will be supplied to all the places of the state till the paddy crop is sown. He said that the Punjab government is paying special attention to strengthening the canal infrastructure. A detailed discussion was also held with the farmer leaders regarding the smooth use and care of rain and water sources. High officials of Agriculture Department, Mandi Board, Revenue Department, Animal Husbandry Department and Police were present in the meeting.
