Pune-Mumbai bus falls into gorge, 12 dead, many injured: Police

A senior police officer said that the private bus carrying members of a traditional music troupe was going from Pune to Mumbai when it fell into a gorge near Shingroba temple on the highway at around 4:50 am. There were 41 passengers in the bus.

All the injured have been sent to Khopoli Rural Hospital and MGM Hospital Kamothe. Baji Prabhu Vadak Group (Cymbal Team) from Goregaon, Mumbai in a private bus was going to Goregaon after finishing the program in Pune. Raigad Superintendent of Police (SP) Somnath Gharge said that those injured and killed were residents of Sion and Goregaon in Mumbai and Virar in neighboring Palghar district. He told that the injured have been admitted to Khopoli Rural Hospital. There are reports of about 40 passengers in the bus. Hikers Group, IRB team is there to help the accident victims. At the same time, doctors of private hospitals were called for help.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has expressed deep sorrow over the horrific accident on the old Mumbai-Pune highway when a private bus fell into a ditch. Expressing condolences to the deceased and their families, an announcement has been made to give assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the relatives of the deceased.
