Husband, wife and daughter lived in a Brahmin family. The daughter started growing up slowly. All qualities were developing in that girl with time. The girl was beautiful, cultured and virtuous, but due to being poor, she could not get married. One day a monk came to the Brahmin’s house, who was very pleased with the service of the girl. Blessing the girl for a long life, the sage said that the girl’s palm does not have a marriageable line.
The girl’s parents asked the monk the solution that what should the girl do in such a way that marriage becomes possible in her hands. The monk told that at some distance in a village, a woman named Sona, a washerwoman, lives with her son and daughter-in-law, who is very virtuous and devoted to her husband. If this girl serves him and that woman applies vermilion of her own demand in her marriage, after that this girl gets married, then this girl’s widowhood can be destroyed.
The monk also told that that woman does not come and go anywhere. Hearing this, Brahmin asked his daughter to serve the washerman. The girl used to get up early in the morning, go to Sona Dhobin’s house, do cleaning and all other things and return to her home. Sona Dhobin asks her daughter-in-law that you wake up early in the morning and do all the work and it is not even known. The daughter-in-law said that mother, I thought that you wake up in the morning and finish all the work yourself. I wake up late. On this, both the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law started monitoring that who is the one who goes early in the morning after doing all the household work.
After many days, the washerman saw that one by one the girl comes to the dark house and leaves after doing all the work. When she started leaving, Sona Dhobin fell at her feet, asking who are you and why do you work in my house secretly like this. Then the girl told all the things said by the monk. Sona the washerwoman was devoted to her husband, she was sharp. She got ready. Sona Dhobin’s husband was a little unwell. He asked his daughter-in-law to stay at home till his return.
As soon as Sona Dhobin applied the vermilion of her demand to the demand of the girl, her husband went away. He came to know about this. She had left the house without water, thinking that if she finds a Peepal tree somewhere on the way, she will receive water only by giving it a bhanwari and circumambulating it. That day was Hariyali Amavasya. Instead of the dish found in the Brahmin’s house, he went around the Peepal tree 108 times by whirling with pieces of brick 108 times and then took water.
