The fasting story of Satudi Teej

According to the mythological story of Satudi Teej, a poor Brahmin’s family lived in a village. Brahmin’s wife kept a fast for Kajali or Satudi Teej coming in the month of Bhadrapada and said to Brahmin, O Swami, today is my Teej fast, get gram sattu for me from somewhere. But the Brahmin got upset and said, from where can I get Sattu, lucky. On this the Brahmin’s wife said that I want gram sattu at any cost. Hearing this, the Brahmin left the house at night, went straight to the moneylender’s shop and prepared 1.25 kg sattu by mixing gram dal, ghee, sugar etc. After doing this, the Brahmin started leaving after tying his bundle.

Only then the moneylender’s servants woke up after hearing the sound of banging and they started making loud noises. They caught the Brahmin, the moneylender also reached there. Brahmin said that, I am very poor and my wife has observed Teej fast today. That’s why I have made only 1.25 kg sattu from here. When the Brahmin was searched, nothing came out except Sattu. There the moon had come out and the Brahmin’s wife was waiting.

The moneylender said that from today I will consider your wife as my religious sister. He bid farewell to the Brahmin by giving Sattu as well as ornaments, mehndi, lachha and rupees. Everyone together worshiped Kajali Mata. That’s why it is said that, as the days of a Brahmin changed, so did everyone’s day.
