Jimutvahan left the kingdom in his youth and went to the forest to serve his father. One day he met a Nagamata in the forest. Who was very sad. When Jimutvahana’s Nagamata was asked the reason for her lamentation, she said that the serpents had promised to the bird king Garuda that every day they would give one serpent as his food.

Due to this agreement, the old woman’s son Shankhachud She had to go in front of Garuda, due to which she was very upset. Jimutvahana promised Nagmata that he would not let anything happen to her son and would protect him and return him back. Jimutvahana disguised himself as the serpent’s son, wrapped himself in a cloth and lay down in front of Garuda on the rock from where Garuda collects his food.

Garuda came and took his Jimutavahana from the rock towards the mountain by pressing it in his claws. Garuda saw that like every time, this time the snake was neither shouting nor crying. When he removed the cloth, he found Jimutvahan. Jimutavahana told the whole story to Garuda, after which Garuda left him. Not only this, he also promised not to eat snakes. In this way, Jimutvahana protected the snakes, since then, worshiping Jimutvahana in Jitiya Vrat is considered auspicious for the safety and happiness of the children.

Ashvatthama had entered the camp of Pandavas to avenge the death of his father Guru Dronacharya in the Mahabharata war. Five people were found sleeping inside the camp, Ashwatthama killed them considering them to be Pandavas, but these were not Pandavas but were the five children of Draupadi. In anger, Arjan captured Ashwatthama and took out his divine gem from his forehead. He tried to kill the child growing in the womb of Abhimanyu’s wife Uttara and he destroyed Uttara’s womb with Brahmastra, then Lord Krishna brought Uttara’s unborn child back to life. Because of being alive after dying in the womb, that child is also known as Jivitputrika. After this incident, Jitiya fast is observed for the long life of the children.
