After the cabinet expansion of the Shinde government of Maharashtra, the portfolios have been distributed among the ministers. NCP leader and recently appointed Deputy Chief Minister in the Shinde government, Ajit Pawar has been given the charge of Finance and Planning Ministry. Along with this, Chhagan Bhujbal has been made the Minister of Logistics and Customer Protection. After the cabinet expansion in Maharashtra, the opposition parties were constantly raising questions on the delay in distribution of portfolios of ministers. However, setting aside all the controversies, now the ministers have been handed over their departments.
The nine NCP MLAs who were inducted into the cabinet finally got their portfolios on Friday. Among the new ministers, Dharmarao Baba Atram has been given the charge of medicine and administration, Dilip Walse Patil, cooperative, Dhananjay Munde, agriculture and Hasan Mushrif, medical education department.
Along with this, Anil Patil has been made the Minister of Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation, while Aditi Tatkare has been made the Minister of Women and Child Development and Sanjay Bansode has been made the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare and Ports.
This division of portfolios has been done after the Sharad Pawar-led NCP split and after that nine MLAs were made ministers in the Shiv Sena-BJP government. There were also reports of discontent among the old members of the alliance after the NCP MLAs were made ministers. “The cabinet expansion and allocation of portfolios was bound to happen, it was only a matter of time,” Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat said on Thursday after speculation of objections raised by some factions of the party.
The Shiv Sena faction led by former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had raised doubts over the smooth progress of the cabinet expansion in view of the imbalance in the number of MLAs vying for ministerial berths and the vacancies available.
Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, had said, “There is a lot of discontent among BJP workers. It is very difficult to live up to the expectations of the MLAs of all the three parties.” The question of neglect was also raised.
