Maharashtra Assembly today witnessed uproar over a sensational allegation by Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, that a bookie’s daughter tried to threaten and blackmail her. Bookie’s daughter Aniksha has been arrested. Opposition parties Congress and NCP’s Ajit Pawar questioned how the wife of the state home minister could be targeted like this?
Amruta Fadnavis has lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police against the woman who claimed to be a designer. They have accused him of conspiracy. On February 20, a named FIR was lodged against a woman named “Aniksha” and her father.
Amrita Fadnavis alleges that the woman befriended her and tried to bribe her. He offered Rs one crore to intervene in a criminal case involving his father. He also allegedly offered to provide information about bookies “to help make money”.
Congress’s Nana Patole asked, “If the home minister’s family is not safe then how can the people of the state feel safe?” He demanded a thorough inquiry into it. Devendra Fadnavis told the House that the designer had met his father’s wife to save her.
Was in touch with Amrita for 16 months
The police officer said that no one has been arrested in this case so far. According to the FIR, Aniksha was in touch with Amrita for the past 16 months and used to visit her house as well. In her statement to the police, Amrita said that she had met Aniksha for the first time in November 2021. Malabar Hill police station official said that Aniksha claimed that she is a designer and designs clothes, jewelery and shoes. He had requested Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis’s wife to wear them in public events to help promote his products. The officer said Aniksha allegedly told Amrita that her mother had died and she was taking care of her family.
The officer said that after gaining Amrita’s trust, Aniksha offered to give information about some bookies, claiming that they could make money from it. The officer said that after this he directly offered Rs one crore to Amrita to save her father in a police case. The officer said that Amrita told the police that she was upset with Aniksha’s behavior and blocked her number.
The woman then allegedly sent video clips, voice messages and several text messages to Amrita from an unknown number. Citing the FIR, the officer said that Aniksha and her father indirectly threatened Amrita and conspired against them. The city police have registered an FIR against Aniksha and her father under section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
