A jawan of the India Reserve Battalion allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his training camp in Palamu district on Wednesday morning. Palamu District Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Sinha told PTI that the deceased has been identified as Anish Kumar Verma (33), who was currently posted in Jharkhand Jaguar. He said, “The matter is being thoroughly investigated.”
Sinha told that Verma was deputed in ‘Jaguar’ made for Naxal eradication and was taking special training at Lesliganj headquarters of Jharkhand Arms Police (JAP)-08. He said that according to preliminary reports, Verma committed suicide by hanging himself just before leaving the room for training on Wednesday morning. The incident is of Zap-8 campus located in Lesliganj of Palamu district.
After the death of the jawan, the fellow jawan and his brother made serious allegations against IRB Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepak Kumar of harassing the jawan and gheraoed him. Apart from the deputy superintendent, he has also accused the local policemen who imparted training, of torturing them. Police said that after the arrival of the relatives, the post-mortem of the dead body will be done at Medinirai Medical College Hospital.
Jawan Anish Kumar Verma was reinstated in IRB in 2013 and was later selected in Jharkhand Jaguar. He was undergoing training at Zap 8, Lesliganj since January 23 and was in charge of the mess (food). According to preliminary investigation, Verma hanged himself between 5:30 am and 6:00 am on Wednesday morning when all the jawans had gone to the field for PT. When he did not reach the ground for training, his fellow soldiers went to the tent in search of him, where they saw Verma hanging from the noose and immediately took him down to the Lesliganj Community Health Center. From there Verma was sent to MRMCH Medninagar for better treatment but he died while being taken to Medninagar.
