A supplementary charge sheet has been filed in a court here against Oreva Group Managing Director (MD) Jaysukh Patel in connection with the collapse of a suspension bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi town last year. 135 people died in this accident.
Patel’s lawyer Haresh Mehta told that the police on Thursday called Chief Judicial Magistrate M.J. Filed supplementary chargesheet in Khan’s court.
Following this, Patel’s case was transferred to the sessions court on Friday for trial against him and nine other accused. Mehta said, “The matter will now be heard in the court of Principal District and Sessions Judge PC Joshi from March 17.”
A Special Investigation Team had filed a charge sheet on January 27 against the nine accused arrested in the case. Patel was then declared a fugitive. He later surrendered before a court and was arrested by the police on 31 January.
Patel and others under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 336 (act endangering human life), 337 (causing hurt by a negligent act) ) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by negligent act).
A court had recently rejected Patel’s plea for interim bail. Significantly, on October 30 last year, 135 people were killed and 56 others were injured when a bridge collapsed in Morbi city of Gujarat.
