Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated with pomp in Kashmir on Tuesday and the idol of the Lord was immersed in the Jhelum river here for the first time after the spread of terrorism in the valley. The biggest celebration and puja was organized at the Ganapatiyar Temple located in the Habba Kadal area of ​​the city. Kashmiri Pandit leader Sanjay Tikku said that on the birthday of Lord Ganesha, special worship along with Havan was performed in the temple.
Tikku said, “Today Vinayak Chaturthi was celebrated in Kashmir in the same way as it is celebrated in Maharashtra and other parts of the country. On this day, we perform a yagya in this Siddhivinayak temple which lasts for about 12-14 hours.
The eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesha was immersed in the Jhelum river at Ganpatiyar in the evening, the local community said. This was done for the first time after the spread of terrorism in the valley in 1989.
A procession was taken out with much fanfare to immerse the statue.
