In this operation which has been going on since Saturday, the Punjab Police has so far arrested many associates and close friends of Amritpal Singh. Punjab Police says that it will soon arrest Amritpal Singh as well. NDTV had a special conversation with Jalandhar’s DIG Swapna Sharma regarding this entire operation. During a special conversation with NDTV, DIG Swapan Sharma said that whenever the police takes action, it is also necessary for us to keep the general public safe during that action. The same has been done in this operation as well. According to us, this operation was successful because we first traced the convoy of Amritpal Singh. Our team also chased his convoy for 15-16 kms. After this he entered the residential area. Amritpal used the common people as a shield to escape. After this our team arrested many associates of Amritpal Singh without taking any strict action. We have also recovered many weapons and cartridges from his associates. Our team will also arrest Amritpal soon. We have laid siege in many suspicious areas. The search is on. Many of our teams are still on the ground.

DIG Swapan Sharma said that on Sunday our team has arrested 10 people, along with 7 illegal weapons and several hundred rounds of live cartridges have also been seized. The police team has also seized three more vehicles which were used in Amritpal’s convoy. Our team is still running the investigation operation along with the siege.

Significantly, the Punjab Police has recovered the vehicle of Khalistan supporter and radical preacher Amritpal Singh from a village in Mahatpur. When the Punjab Police chased Amritpal, Amritpal fled away in a motorcycle, leaving behind his car and firearms. According to the information received from the Punjab Police, yesterday Amritpal Singh had hit four people while leaving his vehicle and running away from another vehicle. Amritpal’s car hit 4 bikes. The injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
Jalandhar Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh has been declared a fugitive. Two of his cars have been seized and his gunmen have been caught. The validity of his weapons is being investigated and a case has been registered. Daljit Singh Kalsi, who handled Amritpal Singh’s finance, has been arrested by the Punjab Police in Gurgaon, Haryana. Soon he will also be caught.
78 close ones arrested so far
Punjab Police is continuously searching for Amritpal Singh since Saturday. Although Amritpal Singh has not been arrested yet. Section 144 has been imposed in several districts of Punjab including Amritsar, Fazilka, Moga and Muktsar. The Punjab Police said in a statement on Saturday that 78 close aides of Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh have been arrested. The police of seven districts have cordoned off the place where Amritpal is likely to be hiding. Amritpal Singh and his companions were surrounded by the police near Mahetpur village of Shahkot in Jalandhar. Amritpal Singh’s father has also been arrested by the police.
