Delhi: Sexual assault on minor in school bus, DCW issues notice to police seeking information in the matter

New Delhi: A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a senior student inside a school bus in North-West Delhi’s Rohini area. The police gave this information on Saturday. A senior police officer said that the accused has been caught.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rohini, seeking information regarding the action taken in the case of sexual assault of a minor girl in a private school bus. A senior police officer said that the police got information about the incident of molestation of a minor girl on Wednesday.

“The victim’s father has alleged in his written complaint that his daughter was molested by a boy in a school bus,” the officer said. A case has been registered at Begumpur police under sections 10/21 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act) and 228A (disclosing the identity of a victim of certain offences) and criminal force to her with intent to .”

The officer said that the accused has been nabbed and further investigation is on. The letter issued to Rohini’s Deputy Commissioner of Police reads, “The Commission has been informed that the girl child studies in a private school in Delhi’s Begumpur area. The victim’s mother said that on August 23, when the school bus dropped her daughter at the gate of the society, she saw that the girl’s bag was wet due to urine. They allege that on being asked, the girl told that a student studying in the senior class sexually assaulted her in the school bus.

The DCW has sought a copy of the FIR lodged in the notice issued on September 1 and has asked to explain the reason for the delay in registering the FIR, if any.

The DCW has also asked in the notice whether the accused in the case was arrested or apprehended? and whether any FIR has been lodged against the school chairman, school manager, principal, vice principal and other school officials for allegedly not giving information and revealing the identity of the victim?

The commission’s chairperson Swati Maliwal posted on the social media platform ‘X’, saying, “Senior boy sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl in a private school bus in Delhi. The girl’s mother told us that the school is pressurizing her to withdraw the complaint. Notice is being given to the Delhi Police in the matter. Strict action should be taken against the school too.
