Bihar: Unique demonstration of angry farmers for not getting fair price, threw hundreds of sacks of potatoes on NH-28

In Bihar’s Begusarai, potato farmers expressed their displeasure against the government in a unique demonstration. These farmers expressed their displeasure by throwing hundreds of sacks of potatoes on NH-28 on Friday and also raised slogans against the central and state government. Significantly, the farmers of Bachwara block of Begusarai district were constantly demanding that the government should fix the support price of potatoes so that farmers could sell their potatoes at a reasonable price. Potatoes are cultivated on a large scale in different areas of Begusarai district, but this time neither the farmers are getting the traders nor the cold store owners are keeping the potatoes of the farmers. The situation is that now the farmers are not even getting laborers to extract potatoes from the fields.

The minimum support price of vegetables and potatoes should be fixed

In such a situation, the farmers tried several times in writing to attract the attention of the government and the district administration, but when there was no hearing on the demands, they expressed their anger by throwing their potatoes on the road. Farmers have demanded that the minimum support price of green vegetables and potatoes should be fixed in the state on the lines of Kerala. Farmers have also said that earlier compensation for crop damage was also given to the farmers, but now the government has now given that too. Has been closed due to which the farmers have reached the brink of starvation.

If the demands are not heard then the movement will intensify

Farmers said that what is the condition of potato farmers today. Today the cost price of potato is not going up due to transplanting, sowing, spraying and digging. Along with this, Rs 50 per quintal has been increased through cold storage. Potato has not been brought under the ambit of MSP by the government. That’s why we have expressed our displeasure by throwing potatoes on the road. We demand from the government that potatoes should be brought under the purview of MSP. Simultaneously, the Bihar government should give at least Rs 20,000 per acre to the farmer under crop assistance, the increase in cold storage rent should be withdrawn. If the government does not pay attention to our demand, then we will intensify our agitation in the coming days.
