Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the list of candidates regarding the Karnataka elections. There is a hue and cry in the Karnataka BJP over this list. Amidst all this, the former deputy CM of the state, Laxman Savadi, will join the Congress after being upset with the BJP for not giving him the ticket. He met senior Karnataka Congress leader D Shivakumar and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Friday. After meeting the Congress leaders, Savadi said that I think that the big leaders of BJP should not be ignored like this in the elections.
Congress can field as a candidate
Laxman Savadi announced to leave BJP on Wednesday. His decision came on Tuesday after the list released by the party high command regarding the elections. In this list, the party refused to give him a ticket. Therefore, going against this decision of the party, he severed ties with the BJP itself. According to sources, the Congress may field Savadi as a candidate in the elections.
“9 to 10 MLAs in contact with us”
D Shivakumar of Congress said that there is no condition. They feel that they have been insulted. It is our duty to bring such great leaders into the Congress party. There are more than 9 or 10 sitting MLAs who want to join us but we do not have space. Savadi is a powerful Lingayat leader and was the second most influential BJP leader from the community in Karnataka after former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa.
Savadi, 63, has been an MLA for three terms. After leaving the party on Wednesday, he said that this decision is a tough decision. However, he did not say openly whether he is in touch with the Congress or not.
Savadi told reporters that I have made my decision. I am not one of those who roam around with a begging bowl. I am a self-respecting politician. I am not working under anyone’s influence.
