Parliament Special Session: Prime Minister in Rajya Sabha on the second day of the special session of Parliament Narendra Modi appealed to all parties to come together on the Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Act). PM Modi said that Rajya Sabha has a big opportunity to take a unanimous decision on the bill related to women empowerment. PM Modi was speaking in the welcome address in the Rajya Sabha of the new Parliament.
After PM Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was given a chance to speak in the Rajya Sabha. During this, Kharge said that OBC women should get reservation in the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. There was an uproar in the Rajya Sabha on this statement.
Parties give tickets to weak women
Kharge said, “MPs come after getting elected. Women from backward classes and scheduled castes are not that educated. Their literacy is also very low. All parties have a habit of giving tickets to weak women. They don’t give it to those who can fight. I know.”
BJP expressed objection to Kharge’s statement
BJP leaders objected to this. After this Kharge said, “I have to say that they always tell people from weaker sections not to open their mouths. Don’t talk at that party. That’s why I’m saying it.”
Ruckus by BJP MPs
The ruckus of BJP MPs continued on this statement. On this Kharge said, "I am speaking for all parties. This is the case in every party. That’s why women are at the bottom. Don’t want to let them move forward.”
Nirmala Sitharaman expressed objection
After this, the Chairman gave Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman a chance to speak to register her objection. He said that it is unfair to say that the party does not give importance to women. This is wrong. The party gave a chance to all of us. I lodge an objection. You cannot generalize.
‘Backward women are not getting the opportunity’
On this, Mallikarjun Kharge said that the backward, schedule caste women are not getting the opportunity as they are getting. This is what we are saying.
‘Don’t differentiate between women’
On this Nirmala Sitharaman said who is President Murmu? You can’t say like that. How can you differentiate between two women? We are talking about reservation for all women.
Dhankhar tried for reconciliation
On this, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried for reconciliation. He said that we are discussing a historical topic.
Always supported women’s reservation
After this, Kharge said that I am only saying that we have continuously supported the women’s reservation bill. Also tried to get it passed in 2010. Parliament is the temple of democracy.
Kharge said that they do not give us credit, but I want to bring to their notice that the Women’s Reservation Bill was already passed in 2010, but it was stopped.
