The Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers’ Association organized a convention in Chennai on Saturday (August 2), which was named- Sanathanam (Eternal Dharma) abolition convention. This conference was also addressed by Udhayanidhi Stalin.

What did Udhayanidhi Stalin say?

According to news agency IANS, Udhayanidhi said, "I thank the organizers for giving me an opportunity to speak in this conference organized to end Sanatan Dharma. I congratulate the organizers for calling the conference ‘abolition of Sanatan Dharma’ instead of ‘opposing Sanatan Dharma’."

He further said, "There are some things which we have to end and we cannot just protest. Mosquitoes, dengue, corona and malaria are such things that we cannot resist. We have to eliminate them. Sanatanam is also like that. Our first task is not to oppose Sanatanam, but to eradicate it."

BJP alleges incitement to genocide

After Udayanidhi’s statement came to the fore, a controversy started over it. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that the son of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and a minister in the DMK government is appealing for genocide of those who follow Sanatana Dharma.

Malviya wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "Udhayanidhi Stalin has linked Sanatan Dharma with Malaria and Dengue. They believe that it should be abolished, not just opposed. In short, he is calling for the genocide of 80% of India’s population who follow Sanatan Dharma." He further wrote, "The DMK is a prominent member of the opposition group (India) and an old ally of the Congress. Was this agreed upon in the Mumbai meeting?"

Udhayanidhi on BJP’s allegations

Udhayanidhi hit back at BJP’s allegations of genocide of 80 percent people and accused them of spreading fake news. Responding to Malviya’s tweet, Udhayanidhi wrote, ‘I never called for the genocide of people following Sanatan Dharma. Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai attacking Udhayanidhi wrote on X, "Udhayanidhi Stalin, you, your father, him or your ideologues have bought ideas from Christian missionaries and the idea of those missionaries was to create fools like you to promote their malicious ideology. Tamil Nadu is the land of spirituality. The best thing you can do is grab the mic at an event like this and vent your frustration!"
