He said that the public would also want that I should give good films so that people can get motivated. I don’t fit in.
Based on these statements it seems that Sunny Deol is not in favor of contesting the upcoming general elections. Even before this he had given such statements at many places.
Became MP from Gurdaspur for the first time in 2019
Sunny Deol, son of his time’s superstar Dharmendra, entered politics for the first time in 2019. He contested elections from Gurdaspur in Punjab on BJP ticket and reached Lok Sabha after winning. In this election, Sunny defeated Sunil Jakhar of Congress by a margin of about 8 thousand votes. The Gadar actor got 50.61 percent vote share in this election. Whereas Congress, which stood second, got 43.14 percent vote share and AAP got 2.51 percent vote share.
A tremendous craze of film faces in Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat
A tremendous craze of film faces is seen in Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat of Punjab. With the help of this, BJP also won the Gurdaspur seat for the first time. BJP had given ticket to a film star for the first time in 1998 on the seat which is considered a stronghold of Congress, in which famous star Vinod Khanna won the Gurdaspur general seat for the first time by defeating Sukhbans Kaur of Congress. After this, Vinod Khanna maintained his victory twice in a row in 1999 and 2004. In 2009, Congress’s Sardar Pratap Singh Bajwa won but then in 2014, Khanna won from here.
After Vinod Khanna’s death, Sunil Jakhar of Congress defeated BJP in the by-elections by a huge margin in 2017. After which Sunny Deol was successful in giving victory to BJP in 2019. At the same time, if Sunny Deol contests elections from here again, will BJP again bet on film stars in 2024?
