Rohini Commission Report: Government should increase the limit of 50 percent reservation, those who have not got it till date should also get it – demand of Owaisi

OBC Quota Policy: A list of 2600 OBC castes has been given in the Rohini Commission report to divide OBCs into sub-categories. It has also been told in this report how the OBC quota should be allocated. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi has tweeted on the OBC reservation issue.

Owaisi wrote on X (earlier Twitter), "More than 50% of India’s population is forced to compete for only 27% (reservations). Narendra Modi Govt should increase the cap of 50% (reservation) and extend reservation to those castes who can never benefit from reservation. Some dominant castes have captured all the benefits."

Owaisi further said, "All classification should be done on the basis of equality so that the child of a small weaver family is not forced to compete with the son of former landlord. The communities which are included in the State BC list should be directly included in the Central OBC list."

What are the recommendations made in the report of the commission?

According to the Hindustan Times report, the commission has said that its aim is to give equal opportunities to all through sub-categorization. Although the sub-category has not been confirmed, it is expected to be divided into three to four categories. One of the possible three sub-categories is to give 10 percent reservation to those who have not received any benefit. Chances are. Apart from this, there is a possibility of 10 percent reservation for those who have got some benefits. On the other hand, those who have got the most benefits are likely to be given 7 percent reservation.

There is a feeling of fear among some that the castes under OBC which have got more benefits may be excluded.
