Manipur Violence: ‘Video of Manipur is disturbing’ – CJI Chandrachud expressed his displeasure and made strong remarks

Manipur Violence: Commenting strongly on the video of 2 women being paraded naked in Manipur, the Supreme Court said that ‘if the government does not take strict steps, we will take action…’ CJI DY Chandrachud has given instructions to take strict action against the accused in this matter. It has also been told that the matter will be heard on Friday next week. Earlier the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also expressed grief over the matter and called for strict action. 

Stern warning of the Supreme Court
On the incident of parading women naked, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that such an incident cannot be accepted at all. He has sought information as to what action has been taken against those who are responsible for this. The court has warned the government that if it does not take necessary action then the court will take steps on its behalf. 

Chief Justice summoned the report
As soon as the proceedings of the Supreme Court started at around 10.30 am on July 20, the Chief Justice said that the video of Manipur is disturbing. He said that in the area affected by caste violence, women were used as a commodity. Such violation of constitutional rights is intolerable. Central and state government should report on this. The Supreme Court has summoned a report in this matter till the next hearing. 

Supreme Court gave time to the government
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the second biggest lawyer of the Central Government present in the court, agreed with the concern of the court. He said that strict action is needed in this matter. On this, the Chief Justice said that he is giving time to the government to do its work. The matter will be heard on Friday, July 28. If satisfactory steps are not taken by then, the Supreme Court itself will pass necessary orders.
