Kangpokpi District: Violence broke out during a rally in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Friday, injuring at least five protesters and some security forces. According to the information, the police released teargas shells in which two people were injured. Both the injured were referred to Imphal for further treatment after first aid at District Hospital, Kangpokpi.
Violence broke out on Friday morning
Manipur Police has imposed restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in the entire Kangpokpi district headquarters and its surrounding area from March 9 till further orders. According to East Mojo, a website that monitors news from the Northeast, the violence took place around 11:30 am on Friday near Thomas Ground in Kangpokpi town. Policemen tried to disperse the protesters, but in retaliation, the protesters pelted stones at the security forces.
Rally organized against the policies of the government
Let us tell you that under the supervision of Kuki Impi Manipur, Kuki CSO had organized a rally against the injustice of the state government towards tribal land rights and policies. Similar rallies were also taken out in other hill districts of Manipur, though no untoward incident was reported from these places.

land declared as reserve forest area
The protesters alleged that the state government had wrongly declared some land in the hill districts as reserve forest areas or wetlands. The rally was also against the alleged forced eviction and demolition without proper rehabilitation of the affected families or rehabilitation.
