Manipur Violence: Demand for discussion and protest in Parliament premises against Sanjay Singh’s suspension, Rajnath Singh talks to opposition leaders

Parliament Monsoon Session: Opposition parties created a ruckus in both the Houses during the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Monday (July 24) over the issue of Manipur Violence. Due to this, the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till Tuesday (July 25). Amid protests by the opposition, the Rajya Sabha chairman suspended AAP MP Sanjay Singh for the remaining duration of the monsoon session. After which the matter escalated.

In protest against the suspension of Sanjay Singh, the leaders of the constituent parties of the opposition alliance Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India) sat on a dharna in the Parliament premises. Opposition leaders told that this dharna will continue throughout the night and will happen on Tuesday as well. Along with this, the opposition leaders are also demanding PM Modi’s statement on the issue of Manipur. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said in the Lok Sabha that he is ready for discussion, but the opposition is running away from the discussion.

Rajnath Singh talks to opposition leaders

To reduce the impasse, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on the phone, but the Congress President first placed the condition of the Prime Minister’s statement on Manipur inside the House. According to news agency PTI, Rajnath Singh has also spoken to several other opposition leaders, including DMK leader TR Balu, but to no avail.

Chairman meets Mallikarjun Kharge

"sometimes drastic measures have to be taken"

Hours after Sanjay Singh was suspended from the Rajya Sabha, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that it is sometimes necessary to take tough measures to enforce decorum and discipline. While serving as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, I use everything under my control to ensure that decorum and discipline are maintained in the temple of the largest democracy.

These bills were introduced amid the uproar

Amidst the uproar in the Lok Sabha, the government was able to clear some legislative work. The government introduced three bills and withdrew one. The Center has withdrawn the DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2019. Whereas the National Dental Commission Bill, 2023, the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill, 2023 and the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were introduced.

Both sides called a meeting on Tuesday

Sanjay Singh targets PM Modi

After being suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the entire session, Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh said why the Prime Minister of the country is not answering the violence in Manipur by coming to the House. The wife of a Kargil warrior was paraded naked. India’s 140 crore people hang their heads in shame, but the Prime Minister is not ready to come and answer in the House.

What other opposition leaders said?

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that This is not the first time that someone is protesting. Everyone protests in Parliament. There is freedom of speech in a democracy, the one who comes to the Parliament to speak should get a chance. Today the intention of the government is to silence the voice in one way or the other. He did the same last time as well.

Shiv Sena (UBT)’s MP Sanjay Raut said  We want the suspension of Sanjay Singh to be withdrawn. Why was the suspension done? We were repeatedly drawing the attention of the Chairman towards Manipur, but he was not ready to listen. So we had no other option but to go and speak in front of him. What is the problem in the Prime Minister coming for discussion? If they come, their greatness will increase further.

Sitting on dharna Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said that many of our fellow MPs are still standing in front of Gandhiji’s statue inside the Parliament. They are raising slogans of justice for Manipur. At the same time, SP supremo and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav tweeted that this is really Kaliyug. When Dhritarashtra is expelling even Sanjay from the court. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that in his long political life, I have never seen anything like this.

One more arrest in connection with Manipur incident

It may be noted that violence has erupted in Manipur since May 3 following the demand for reservation by the Meitai community. So far more than 160 people have died in this ongoing violence in Kuki and Maitai. Meanwhile, last week a video of women being paraded naked from Manipur had also surfaced. It is alleged that women were also raped. After this anger erupted in the country. Another arrest was made in this case on Monday. Manipur Police said that seven accused, including a minor, have been arrested in the case so far.
