People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday (October 3) condemned the raid conducted by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on the houses of journalists of news portal Newsclick. Former Jammu-Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti said that this raid is very distressing. He alleged that the central government is advocating press freedom abroad and attacking it domestically.
Mehbooba Mufti wrote on the social media platform It claims that India is the mother of democracy and it talks about freedom of press abroad, but at the same moment it misuses government agencies to crack down on the handful of independent media institutions left.’

Mehbooba Mufti said, ‘Telephone equipment was also forcibly snatched away as part of the investigation to collect information without any specific purpose. The repeated illegal sequence of arresting first and then making false allegations is extremely disturbing.’

Special Cell. raided the premises associated with Newsclick and its journalists on Tuesday morning. Journalists have expressed anger over this action. Officials said that the Special Cell has registered a new case and started investigation. Senior journalist Abhisar Sharma wrote on social media platform X (Twitter), ‘Delhi Police reached my house. Took my laptop and phone. Another journalist Bhasha Singh also wrote on X (Twitter), ‘Last tweet from my phone. Delhi Police is confiscating my phone.’
