Delhi Excise Policy Case: Court sent Manish Sisodia on ED remand for 7 days

Delhi Excise Policy Case: Manish Sisodia was sent on ED remand for seven days on Friday (March 10) by the court in Delhi’s liquor policy case. The ED, while seeking 10 days’ custody of Sisodia, had said during the hearing that the scam began with the drafting of the excise policy, which was made by Sisodia and others. During this, Sisodia’s lawyer strongly opposed the ED.

CBI has also arrested Sisodia in excise policy. The next hearing regarding this will be on March 21. Sisodia was earlier arrested by the CBI on February 26 in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi’s excise policy. After this, ED questioned Sisodia in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case related to this and on Thursday (March 9)  arrested them.

ED said that there are witnesses and other evidence against Manish Sisodia. Sisodia was part of a nexus related to the money laundering case. The ED further claimed that Sisodia destroyed other evidence from the phone. Then he used the phone bought by someone else. Gave us wrong statements again and again. In such a situation, Sisodia will have to face other people to expose the whole conspiracy. On this, Sisodia’s lawyer said that policy making is the work of the executive, which has to go through several stages.

‘Done at the behest of Manish Sisodia’
ED told the court that illegal earnings were made by benefiting the wholesalers in the liquor policy. By giving the business of wholesale to some private people, 12 percent profit margin was given, which should have been only 6 percent, ignoring the opinion of the expert committee. The ED claimed that it has evidence that all this was done at the behest of Sisodia. It was alleged that the system fixed for giving license for the sale of liquor was also violated.  Selected people were benefited in this. Sisodia is not cooperating in the investigation of the case.

What did Manish Sisodia’s lawyer say?
AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s lawyer said in the court that  The excise policy was approved by the Lieutenant Governor and others. How can ED probe policy making in money laundering case? The probe agency found nothing against Sisodia, the case is completely based on hearsay.

He described the PMLA (Prevention of Money-laundering Act) as ‘very draconian’’ Stating that you’ve been arrested to keep the leader in jail. In such a situation, the time has come for the court to take a strong stand against such arrests.
