Delhi: Emergency meeting by Mayor regarding stray dog ​​incidents, instructions given to prepare action plan

Delhi: Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shelly Oberoi held an emergency meeting with the officials of Veterinary Department today. Taking cognizance of the incident of dogs biting children in Vasant Kunj, directed the officers to take strict steps. Also pulled up the officials for negligence and directed the department to ensure that no such incident happens again.

MCD has 20 sterilization centres

MCD works closely with various NGOs to control the population of stray dogs. Presently MCD has 20 sterilization centers out of which 16 are working. Officials told that more sterilization centers are needed to reduce the dog population in the city. On the other hand, Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi said, there is a lack of necessary infrastructure to reduce their population. The MCD has not conducted a census to ascertain the population of stray animals for many years.

To investigate the Vasant Kunj incident…

On the other hand, seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Mayor instructed the officials to chalk out a strategy to solve the problem. He was told that after the Vasant Kunj incident, 4 teams have been deployed to investigate it. About 50 dogs have been picked up from there, out of which 90 per cent dogs have been sterilised.

The Mayor instructed the officials that cattle and stray dogs should not become a cause of trouble for the people of Delhi. Along with this, the department has been directed to submit daily report on dog and cattle catching. Deputy Mayor Aale Muhammad Iqbal, Rajendra Nagar MLA Durgesh Pathak and other senior officers of the corporation were present in the meeting.
