CPI(M) leader Govindan sent legal notice to Swapna, know why asked for compensation of one crore

MV Govindan Notice to Swapna Suresh: CPI (M) state secretary MV Govindan has given a legal notice through diplomatic channel to Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case. A notice was sent against him for making defamatory statements. In fact, Govindan has served a legal notice to Swapna Suresh over her claims that Govindan had offered her money and threatened to settle the Kerala gold smuggling case. 

< p style ="text-align: justify;"In his notice given through advocate Nicholas Joseph, Govindan has asked him to tender an unconditional apology and a compensation of Rs one crore. Swapna has been asked to issue an apology in a leading newspaper within 10 days. Last week, Swapna Suresh claimed that the ruling CPI(M) offered her Rs 30 crore through a mediator to settle the matter and leave the state. 

What is the whole matter 

In a Facebook Live, Swapna had revealed that a middleman named Vijay Pillai, sent by CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan, asked her to hand over all the evidence against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family and talk about the CM. Told to shut down. She claimed that Pillai had also come to meet her at a hotel in Bangalore. 

Gold Smuggling Case

On July 5, 2020, at the International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, customs officials seized gold-filled goods weighing more than 30 kg and worth about Rs 15 crore. Customs officials acted on a tip-off that the goods were part of a smuggling syndicate trying to misuse the name of a man who has diplomatic immunity. 

The matter turned into a political controversy

After this the gold smuggling case turned into a big political controversy. This controversy shook the foundation of the ruling Left government. The former Principal Secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Vijayan was suspended from service after M Sivasankar’s involvement and links with prime accused Swapna Suresh came to the fore. He was later arrested and later granted bail.
