India On Chinese Funding: The government told Parliament on Thursday (March 16) that it is aware that China is investing in infrastructure, including ports, highways and airports, in various countries in South Asia. Funding projects related to Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan gave this information to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question.
Muralidharan’s statement in Parliament
He said, “According to media reports and information, there have been incidents of attacks on Indian citizens and people of Indian origin in the US, UK and Canada in the last few years. Some of those attacks appear to be motivated by racism.’’ Muraleedharan said that the safety and welfare of Indian citizens abroad is a top priority for the government. He said that the Indian missions and consulates in the US, UK and Canada are constantly in touch with the local governments and the Indian community.
