Chhattisgarh MLA Meet CM Nitish Kumar: A delegation of MLAs (MLAs) from Chhattisgarh, who came to the state to study the experience of prohibition in Bihar, met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday (March 10) met at the residence. The seven-member delegation, led by veteran Congress leader and former minister Satya Narayan Sharma, also included Dwarkadhish Yadav, Rashmi Ashish Singh, Shishupal Sori, Kunwar Singh Nishad, Daleshwar Sahu and Purushottam Kanwar.

Bihar CM tweeted by Nitish Kumar, "Met a 7-member delegation of the Chhattisgarh Legislature Party, which had come in connection with the study of the successful implementation of total prohibition in Bihar, at 1 Anne Marg today. The study team was given detailed information regarding the efforts made to implement complete prohibition in the state."
Warmly welcoming visitors from Chhattisgarh, the Bihar chief minister recalled the circumstances that led him to promise a complete ban on the sale and consumption of liquor in April 2016 in the interest of the state’s women.

‘Students were against consumption of alcohol since life’
The CM claimed that he was personally against the consumption of alcohol ever since he was an engineering student in the early 1970s. He further said that prohibition was first implemented in Bihar when the Janata Party formed its government under the leadership of his political mentor Karpoori Thakur. However, it was abolished by the later rule of Thakur.
CM also told that Mahatma Gandhi was always a staunch critic of the habit of drinking alcohol. He said that in a survey conducted by the World Health Organisation, consumption of alcohol has been linked to higher rates of suicide and vehicle accidents besides several fatal diseases. The visitors appreciated the Chief Minister for taking the bold step and said that during the study they found that the women of Bihar are very appreciative of prohibition.
The delegation appreciated the liquor ban and said that liquor ban is bringing changes socially and economically And a good environment is being created in the society.
