Anantnag Encounter Live Updates: The last rites of Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish, who were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, will be performed today. The mortal remains of the martyrs will be brought to their native village in the afternoon.

The family of Martyr Colonel Manpreet Singh lives in Bhadaunjia village of Mohali, Punjab and Major Ashish Dhonak’s family lives in Sector 7, Panipat, Haryana, while their ancestral village is Binjhol. The Army paid tribute to both the officers on Thursday and the mortal remains will be sent to their ancestral homes today. Jammu and Kashmir Police DSP Humayun Bhatt, who was martyred in the same encounter, was cremated in Budgam on Wednesday.

Encounter still going on in Kokernag, Anantnag
Encounter between terrorists and security forces is still going on in Kokernag, Anantnag. In the encounter that started on Wednesday morning, two Army officers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police officer were martyred, while with two soldiers injured on Thursday also, the total number of Army injured has reached 5. Jammu and Kashmir Police has confirmed the presence of a local terrorist Uzair Khan and a foreign terrorist in the encounter area. There is also a possibility that the operation may take longer. Although sources say that one terrorist has been killed by the security forces while the search for the other is going on but an official statement has not been issued.
