Mumbai. National Award winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has not yet seen ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’. Both these films proved to be blockbusters at the box office. But opposition parties called it propaganda films. Both the films were accused of presenting a negative image of a particular religion. Vishal Bhardwaj has given the reason why he has not seen this film yet. He has also advised many filmmakers to treat the stories of this film with sensitivity.
Vishal Bhardwaj said, “I have not seen ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’ and I did not even feel like watching them. I didn’t want to be influenced by the kind of things I was hearing about these films. Friends and acquaintances told me that both of these are propaganda films. So, I just wanted to stay away from it because, for me, it is a very sensitive topic.”
Vishal Bhardwaj further said in an interview to PTI, “If there is so much negativity then I want to stay out of that negativity, I like my peace. That’s why I don’t want to see them.” Apart from this, he also advised the filmmakers to understand the seriousness of such films and not spread propaganda.
Vishal Bhardwaj said that the sensitivity of stories inspired by tragic incidents of real life should be understood and taken seriously. He said, “I want my filmmaker community to take such stories sensitively and not use it as propaganda.”
Let us tell you, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi were in lead and important roles in ‘The Kashmir Files’. The story of the film revolves around the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s. It was directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Whereas, The Kerala Story was directed by Sudipto Sen. It was shown in the film how the Islamic State converts the women of Kerala and joins their group.”
