Bengal Ram Navami Violence: NIA to investigate ‘Ram Navami violence’ in West Bengal, Calcutta High Court orders

West Bengal Violence: The Calcutta High Court has ordered an investigation by the NIA into the violence that took place during Ram Navami in West Bengal. In fact, communal violence took place in many areas of West Bengal during the Ram Navami celebrations. During this, incidents of stone pelting, arson and fighting came to the fore. Police vehicles, shops and public transport were also set on fire. 

In West Bengal, on Ram Navami, there were clashes during the procession in Howrah, North Dinajpur, Islampur from 30 March. A young man had died in this. In the subsequent days, apart from Howrah and Risda, violent incidents took place during the Shobha Yatra at many places. Security personnel had to fire tear gas shells to pacify and disperse the crowd. There was a lot of political ruckus regarding this matter. Both the TMC and the BJP accused each other of abetting the violence.

Order to hand over all documents to NIA within 2 weeks 

Acting Chief Justice’s division bench has given all the necessary documents related to the investigation to the state police within 2 weeks, FIR and CCTV footage ordered to be handed over to NIA. In fact, BJP MLA Shubhendu Adhikari had filed a PIL demanding an NIA probe into the Ram Navami violence in West Bengal.

NIA when will start investigation 

After getting the NOC from the Central Government, the NIA will start the investigation of the case. A large number of police forces were deployed following violence at Ram Navami celebrations in the city. Thousands of people took part in these processions in Howrah, Kharagpur, Barrackpore, Bhadreshwar, Siliguri and Asansol, raising slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
