The Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy, however, defeated Thailand’s Benyapa Amsard and Nunatakarn Amsard in straight games in the women’s doubles match.

The Indian pair won 21–14 21–12 in a 30-minute match. Eighth seed Srikanth lost 11-21 21-15 12-21 to Ireland’s unseeded Nguyen Nahat on the opening day of the tournament.
The match lasted for an entire hour in which the Ireland player made a spectacular comeback after missing the second game. Commonwealth Games gold medalist Kashyap was defeated by top seed Kento Momota of Japan 13-21 2-22 in a 42-minute match.
